Our close links with ASGBI has enabled us to have a number of sessions at each annual ASGBI conference. Some of the most popular sessions have been those that have dealt with biological meshes – some basic science and theory and the practicalities of their use and abuse. This is a rapidly developing area, which you really need to know about, and we aim to keep you at the cutting edge. At the recent ASGBI Conference in Bournemouth we had an excellent session.

We also have a session at the next AUGIS meeting in Belfast, September 15-16 later this year 2011– http://www.augis.org/belfast2011/index.htm on the repair of Incisional Hernia a subject that has proved to be a tremendously popular at previous ASGBI meetings. The session at this years AUGIS meeting is likely to be equally well attended and prove equally worthwhile.

The next full meeting of the British Hernia Society will be in Manchester 2012 in October of that year – Olympic year. The local organizer is Aali Sheen and it is likely to be a very well attended event, with an exciting venue (already arranged, but will not be announced till nearer the time) and a range of international speakers.

We have chosen two apparently diverse topics – the Sportsperson’s hernia (Olympic year) and the problem of the Open Abdomen. Truly a meeting of two halves. They are both relatively rare, but can present real management problems when they land in your lap. We’ll have some answers for you at the meeting, and we’ll be keeping you up to date with details of the full programme. Equally exciting and something to really look forward to is the 2014 European Hernia Society meeting, which Andrew DeBeaux tendered for and won (against extremely stiff opposition). So it will be in Edinburgh, with Andrew as the local organizer.

We are currently negotiating an attractive membership package with some very appealing benefits, and will be revealing all on this website soon. On behalf of my fellow Board members I would like to thank you for your interest, and we look forward to meeting you at future conferences.
