Alice Birch is an Advanced Clinical Practitioner at Barnstaple, North Devon Comprehensive Hernia Centre which is located ay North Devon District Hospital. She is a nurse by background with a masters degree in advanced clinical practice. She has an extensive nursing experience and has helped progress a tertiary hernia service and create the prehabilitation pathway that patients undergo prior to hernia repair. She sees patients at every step of their journey – from the initial consultation, throughout their prehabilitation journey, when they come in for surgery and follow them up for five years post operatively. She has an interest in patient information and has created many patient information leaflets and posters around hernia repair. She supports her patients throughout their hernia journey and feels passionate that patients should receive an excellent experience. She understands the worries patients have and the questions they want to know and is keen to help British Hernia Society through the patient and public liaison subcommittee.
