BHS AGM 3RD MARCH 2021
It is with great pleasure that I announce that our AGM which was held on the 3rd of March was a great success. We discussed The British Hernia society’s charitable status, which was approved. A lot of effort and hard work for this and our constitution, I would like to thank our incoming Treasurer, Stella Smith for leading the process as well as the Board.
Mr Liam Hogan, our Past President presented a very brief, but detailed overview of the British hernia registry which will go live later this year. All the board members will start plugging in data in the first wave so that any issues or deficiencies can be ironed out. It will then be made available to our membership as well as hernia surgeons throughout the UK and Ireland. Importantly this is a big step for us as a body of surgeons where we can show that we have good real time data collection for all hernia surgery undertaken. Pump priming has been instituted with grants from various organisations and we are now approaching the Royal colleges as well as other surgical societies for funds, but we feel eventually the hernia registry will be self-funding as trusts will be keen to procure the registry dataset.
In the future of course we do hope it will be mandatory for anyone undertaking hernia surgery in the United Kingdom & Ireland to enter their patients details into the registry.
We would like to thank our membership for all their continued support and as always, we are here to help as best we can. Any new information, as always we will promptly share with our members over the coming months.
With my best wishes on behalf of the BHS Board
