Kate Hawley
Kate Hawley is based at Newcastle and is a former patient who is passionate about using her voice to help others who has a significant experience in the area of PPI and has been selected by the NIHR to sit as a PPIE assessor for their competitive grants and fellowships. She has worked with Cancer Research UK , NICE and Great Ormond Street Hospital to lead on public engagement and PPI reviewing in their funding applications. She has also been recruited by NHS England to sit as a Patient and Public Voice member on their clinical reference group. She has a wealth of PPI experience across the health and research sector in focus groups, discussion groups, steering groups and sitting as the PPI co-applicant on studies and grant applications (I am currently sitting as the patient voice co-applicant on 3 NIHR grant applications). She is experienced in reading and digesting complex documents and ‘Plain English summaries’, and reviewing them from a lay perspective.
