Advertisement for the position of British Hernia Society Registry Subcommittee member

The British Hernia Society (BHS) is inviting applications from interested surgeons to join the BHS registry subcommittee (RSC). The appointment will commence immediately and is for a period of three years in the first instance.

The BHS Registry is one of our most important projects. The RSC was stablished in 2021 and over the last five years has developed the registry from scratch. The registry was launched in November 2024 and a year later has more than 2000 patients recruited and over 250 surgeons enrolled.

The existing ten RSC members have worked extremely hard over those years and due to the scale of this project we need extra help. Two of the main areas for development in the coming year include firstly the establishment and formalisation of the research aspect of the registry and secondly making the registry mandatory for all hernia repairs in the UK and Ireland, both in the NHS and in the private sector.

Joining the RSC involves a regular meeting every month and the work is distributed amongst the subcommittee members. We hope to attract new members who are very keen and proactive so that we can continue to develop the registry and the work streams around it over the next few years.

If you would like to join our team then please submit a short CV and a short statement outlining your suitability for the position to: liam@horgans.info  The application deadline is the 30th of March, 2026.
