Ed Nevins is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon at the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. He has a specialist interest in hernia, complex abdominal wall surgery and bariatric surgery. He is a high-volume hernia and bariatric surgeon and serves as the bariatric lead for his department. He has a particular focus on preoperative optimisation and improving patient outcomes following hernia surgery.

Ed obtained his medical degree from the University of Liverpool in 2013 and went on to complete a Master’s degree in Medical Research and Statistics at the same institution. He undertook Core Surgical Training in Liverpool before returning to the North East and  joining Northumbria Healthcare as a Consultant Surgeon in 2024.

Alongside his clinical practice, Ed is an active researcher with a broad academic portfolio spanning hernia surgery, robotics, surgical training, bariatric surgery, emergency and trauma surgery, and sustainability in surgery. He has published widely across these fields and remains committed to advancing surgical practice through research and innovation.
