Gaurav is a Consultant Colorectal and Abdominal Wall surgeon at the York Abdominal Wall Unit at the York and Scarborough NHS trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Hull York Medical School.

He completed his medical school and surgical training In India, followed by FRCS in Lower GI while working at Kettering in the East Midlands  and then went on to work for three years as an Abdominal Wall Surgery Fellow at Mid and South Essex NHS trust. He was appointed as a Consultant at York in 2025 after getting his Specialist Registration via the Portfolio Pathway (CESR).

His clinical interests are based around complex and minimally invasive hernia surgery and improving Parastomal hernia outcomes through novel techniques. His research interests are based around improving decision-making for patients with hernias and quality of life following AWR. He likes to get junior trainees involved in subtle differences in management and understanding different operative techniques that can impact hernia care.
