Maciej Pawlak
Mr. Maciej Pawlak is a Consultant Abdominal Aall Surgeon at the Golden Jubilee National University Hospital in Glasgow, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow, and one of the UK’s leading experts in complex hernia and abdominal wall reconstruction surgery. He holds a PhD in surgical sciences and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England as well as the European Board of Surgery in Abdominal Wall Surgery (FEBS-AWS).
He is a past board member of the European Hernia Society, where he led international guideline development and contributed to surgical education. Currently, he works closely with the British Hernia Society on establishing national standards for abdominal wall reconstruction and promoting the integration of robotic-assisted techniques in hernia repair across the UK.
Mr Pawlak leads educational initiatives through national and international workshops, including cadaveric training courses in abdominal wall surgery and the management of chronic postoperative inguinal pain (CPIP). Passionate about education and research, he supervises MSc, MD, and PhD students and contributes to the scientific community through an extensive portfolio of publications in hernia surgery and surgical innovation.
In addition to his NHS role, he provides private surgical care at Ross Hall Hospital in Glasgow, offering advanced minimally invasive and robotic-assisted hernia procedures. Mr Pawlak combines clinical excellence with patient-centred care, academic leadership, and a commitment to improving surgical standards and training in the UK and beyond.
