NICE surgical mesh for ventral hernia user assessment

NICE is conducting an existing use assessment of Surgical mesh for ventral hernia.

As part of this we are conducting a user preference assessment. The purpose of the User Preference (UP) process is to explore what makes a surgeon select one mesh over another. Exploring this will allow the committee to consider what is important to you when they are making their recommendations.

We are looking for around 15 participants from the following groups:
– General surgeon including abdominal wall reconstruction or hernia specialist
– Colorectal surgeon
– Gastrointestinal surgeon

Participation would involve two virtual User Preference workshops, and two email tasks between the workshops which should take around 10 minutes each.

The workshops will be held in the mornings of the following dates:
UP Workshop 1 on 6th March (tentative)
UP Workshop 2 on 1st May (tentative)

If someone is unable to attend one of the workshops, they can still be involved and be able to contribute to other areas of the UP process.

If a member would like to be a part of the User Preference work, please complete and submit the short MS Form here: NICE HTE 10080 Surgical mesh for ventral hernias: Existing Use Assessment – Fill in form before midnight on Friday 6 February 2026.

Please note, if we receive over 15 participant requests, we may not be able to involve everyone. We welcome anyone with interest in the topic to register their organisation as a stakeholder, as there will be other opportunities to get involved in the assessment.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Many thanks and best wishes,
