Nilofer completed her undergraduate medical degree at Newcastle University. She is a specialty registrar in General and Colorectal Surgery in Yorkshire, and is currently (2025) in the final year of her PhD at the University of Sheffield. She has an interest in surgery for inflammatory bowel disease, hernia surgery and the management of general surgical conditions in pregnancy.

She is actively involved in research and has experience in mixed-methods research and discrete choice experiments. She has also gained experience in research supervision (for BsC intercalated degrees at the University of Sheffield). She is the national lead for the MAMA (management of acute appendicitis in pregnancy) study.
