Rhys Thomas was appointed as an upper GI and Abdominal Wall Reconstruction Surgeon in Croydon, South London in 2015. He has developed the unit into a tertiary referral centre for complex abdominal wall hernias, receiving referrals from over 10 hospitals in the South East of England. He is committed to improving outcomes from complex hernia surgery. Additionally he is faculty lead for the AWR cadaveric course at the Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit (MATTU) in Guildford. He is committed to training the next generation of complex hernia surgeons and has published extensively in the field of Abdominal Wall Reconstruction Surgery. He is faculty member for AWRE and has a particular interest in parastomal hernias, flank hernias and hernias previously considered unreconstructible.
