Sarah Zhao is a general surgical registrar in South London Deanery with an interest in colorectal surgery, abdominal wall reconstruction and hernia surgery. She came out of programme in 2025 after ST5 to pursue a PhD focused on the drivers behind mesh selection in ventral hernia repair. She is passionate about improving trainee exposure to abdominal wall surgery and promoting evidence-based practice in hernia care. Her other roles include co-ordinating the Southeast and South London AWR MDT, sitting on the ACPGBI abdominal wall subcommittee and delivering early surgical skills training.
